Hi Emma! Longtime listener, infrequent commenter. I just listened to this episode on your weight loss effort and your thoughts on GLP-1s, and wanted to share my own experience, in case it’s helpful. I just started Wegovy last week — my first dose left me feeling pretty nauseous, but I’m already noticing changes in hunger and digestion.
I used to dismiss GLP-1s as a fad, but after years of struggling with weight (Hashimoto’s, perimenopause, a-fib, family history of heart issues), I had to reconsider. My cardiologist mentioned that weight could affect the success of future procedures required by the a-fib and that it’s especially hard to lose with Hashimoto’s, and that reframed things for me.
After researching the benefits (beyond weight loss), I decided to try it — not as a shortcut, but as an investment in my long-term health. It’s hard not to feel the stigma, but I’m choosing to see it as taking agency over my well-being.
I love this perspective and it sounds as though it's a really considered decision within a long-term plan. Please do stay in touch and let me know how you get on. I'm intrigued about the sudden lack of 'food noise', which I can't even imagine.
I’m so with you on this, my manager is “on the pen” and she says she’s probably going to have to take it for life!! My daughter has just started with the pen too, I have said, like you, to use this time wisely to recalibrate her food types and focus on clean eating. I have to be careful that I don’t become too preachy about it because like you I eat clean and also eat two meals a day and this has helped me to lose over 4 stone and yes it has so many benefits. I hope people don’t lose sight of more sustainable weight loss methods because it’s potentially going to be a rollercoaster ride of medication that we don’t even know the long term side effects of!! It’s scary to think about.
